Sports Premium

Baldersby St James Church of England Primary School believes that it is important to promote pupils’ healthy lifestyles, physical well-being and to encourage them to participate in sports activities and tournaments. We recognise that there are many benefits to ensuring that all children participate in physical activity and sport including:

  • Develops strength, mobility and physical endurance
  • Supports the establishment of life-long heathy lifestyles
  • Helps with weight control (in light of the increase in childhood obesity cases)
  • Develops social skills, teamwork and friendships
  • Gives children access to new and varied sporting experiences
Accountability

Since September 2013, Ofsted inspections report on PE and sport provision and on how schools spend their additional funding. The Government also holds schools accountable by requiring them to publish on their websites, details of how they spend (or will spend) their PE and sport grant. They must also include detail about the impact this funding has on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment.

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. This means that you should use the Primary PE and Sport Premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years
