Church School

Our vision

“BE KIND, HUMBLE AND SHOW UNITY THROUGH LOVE”

Our school values are:

  • LOVE
  • RESPECT
  • PERSEVERANCE
  • COMMUNITY and
  • HOPE

These values reflect Christian values of inclusivity; valuing everyone and everything, celebrating our differences and supporting personal development and wellbeing. We are a school where happiness and welfare are prioritised.

Our robust academic curriculum, bespoke to our small size, provides challenge and is interwoven with a richness of opportunities for intellectual enquiry and spiritual growth.

  1. Colossians 3: “…. holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

There are strong links between St James Church and school: our foundation governors play an important role in helping to shape the school and in supporting school events.

As well as regular worship in church, we hold special services in church for Harvest, Christmas, Easter and at the end of the school year. The children enjoy the opportunity to sing, pray, perform and share their work with a wider congregation. The children also visit the church for lessons relating to various aspects of the curriculum.

All of our children have the opportunity to visit York Minster for workshops, learning walks and the opportunity for quiet reflection.
